When you boil it down, your performance at work is the result of an accumulation of habits — both positive and negative. Unsurprisingly, bad habits are detrimental to your career. Here are some common ones you should avoid.

If tardiness is your trademark, people will consider you unreliable and irresponsible. Give yourself more time to prepare. For example, get up earlier, and make realistic time estimations, whether it's regarding the rush-hour commute or completing a project.

Some say a clean desk reflects an organized mind and a messy desk shows chaotic thinking. Even if your boss and coworkers don't subscribe to this theory, clutter creates a bad impression. To nip the problem in the bud, start cleaning before things get out of hand.

While tittle-tattle is tempting, being a gossiper has its dangers. As well as damaging the reputation of others, you harm your own image. People label you untrustworthy and may even shun you. If you are prone to this negative habit, avoid those who love to gossip.
