Wang Pei-hua — Ace Producer

It may have opened with low ratings, but TTV's television series “The Fierce Wife” has now become so popular that it has helped coin a phrase. Dealing with the fallout from a husband's infidelity, the show introduced the term “little third party” into Taiwan's modern lexicon.

Developing the show's plot from a friend's anecdote, ace television producer Wang Pei-hua successfully turned a cliched theme into a hot topic. Wang is now on the verge of selling the rights to the show and its original screenplay to 16 countries.

How did she help create such a sensation? “The most important task,” says Wang, “is certainly to locate funding.” Wang explains that a television show may be commissioned, bought, or co-produced by the network. A producer presents a proposal, then goes through a process of discussion and adjustment. With the network's support and funding, the producer recruits the appropriate director, screenwriter and actors. A seasoned TV veteran, Wang has developed a rapport with networks, allowing her to experiment with shows that don't always follow a fixed pattern.

For “The Fierce Wife,” Wang talked with a Taiwanese screenwriter working in China and distilled the ideas she gleaned into proposals to network executives. With their intuition and a grasp of current events, Wang's team decided to focus on the theme of a woman taking control of her life after discovering her husband's affair.


全台「犀利」瘋 王珮華的收視冠軍路

台視電視劇《犀利人妻》的收視率一開始或許不高,但現在受歡迎到帶動流行語彙。這齣戲探討一名丈夫出軌所衍生的餘波,讓「小三」一詞成為台灣新語。
