Take the initiative 
採取主動、帶頭
initiatives這個字很不好翻，可以是積極進取、提議.....，但只要想想它是從initial(起初、字首)這個字來的，中文裡的「初心」有異曲同工之妙。
He took the initiative to apply for that position.
他主動申請那個職位。
Why don't we take the initiative and send them our plan before the meeting?
為什麼不在會議前主動把計劃送給他們呢？
