Taiwanese travelers land in US under Visa Waiver Program (2012/11/02)
免簽首發團
赴美免簽證首發團，沒有受到桑蒂颶風的影響，今天順利抵達紐約和洛杉磯，當局在機場舉辦了盛大歡迎儀式，我國駐當地代表處官員也親自到場迎接。
手上拿著護照與ESTA文件接受媒體拍照，在台灣加入美國免簽證計畫生效第一天，首批旅客搭乘華航班機抵達甘迺迪國際機場，台北經濟文化辦事處處長高振群、機場國際航廈總裁馬卡還特地到場迎接。

這次桑蒂颶風對紐約當地造成巨大衝擊，所幸甘迺迪機場在前一天重新開放、恢復部份運作，讓免簽首發團得以順利平安抵達。
而在美西時間同一天下午，另一團的台灣旅客也順利抵達洛杉磯，除了迎賓儀式外，還從杜莎夫人蠟像館搬來知名影星蠟像開放拍照。

日前旅遊業者在台北國際旅展，估計美西團人數就是去年的十倍之多，未來農曆年過後人數還會大爆發，免簽對旅行業者確實是一大利多。
The first batches of Taiwanese tour groups to visit the United States visa-free have landed. At airports from Los Angeles to New York these travelers were given the red carpet treatment.
These tourists hold their passports and ESTA documents. They are the first group of Taiwanese travelers to arrive in New York under the new Visa Waiver Program. The head of the airport and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office were both there to greet them.

We had these Visa Waiver Programs and it just enables more and more passengers to come and visit our great city. We’re excited because we’re always happy to have passengers coming in and using our terminal.
New York was recently battered by superstorm Sandy. But luckily for these travelers, JFK Airport partially re-opened a day before they arrived.
On the same day another tour group landed in Los Angeles. Besides a welcoming ceremony, a Madame Tussauds’ wax statue was there to greet the tourists.

I believe that the United States places great importance on people from the ROC Taiwan visiting through the visa-free program.
Travel agents at the recent Taipei International Travel Fair estimated that 10 times as many tour groups are leaving for the US West Coast compared to a year before. They expect even more to visit after the upcoming Lunar New Year. The Visa Waiver Program is a big boost to their business.
