Central bank governor promises action to keep NT dollar stable

日圓貶值救出口，競爭對手再也受不了，昨天引發一波亞幣貶值大戰，新台幣重貶3.1角，為16個月來新高。今天盤中波動依舊激烈，來回震盪達2.7角，最後收盤升值0.1分，以新台幣29.559元兌換1美元作收。
The Taiwan dollar made slight gains on the greenback today after a rollercoaster ride the last couple of days. Sharp value changes have added fuel to the fears of a currency war breaking out in Asia, leading central bank governor Perng Fai-nan to promise he’ll take action to keep the local currency stable.

日圓貶值掀起亞洲貨幣競貶大戰，為救出口，28日韓元對美元重貶1.74％，位居亞幣貶值王。台幣也不遑多讓，重貶3.1角，幅度1.05％，為16個月來新高。
Japan’s inflation push seems to have ignited an exchange rate war among its Asian export rivals. On Monday the Korean won weakened by 1.74 percent against the US dollar for the largest drop in Asia. The Taiwan dollar lost 1.05 percent of its value, or about three-tenths of an NT, to push its exchange rate to a 16-month high.

29日來回震盪幅度高達2.7角，最後收盤升值0.1分，以29.559元兌換1美元作收。
Tuesday was another rocky day for the Taiwan dollar. It rose and fell over a range of about 0.27 NT, before rising in value slightly. It finished at 29.559 against the greenback.

Over the next one or two weeks, I’m fearful that Asian exchange rates could continue to weaken.

最近一個月，日圓貶值幅度衝到4.83%，大幅超越韓圜的2.09%和新台幣的1.43%，
Over the past month the Japanese yen has fallen by 4.83 percent, making the 2.09 percent loss for the Korean won and the 1.43 percent loss for the Taiwan dollar look relatively small.

央行總裁彭淮南透過報告表示，來自不規則因素的匯率波動，央行將出手，間接暗示貨幣大戰全面開打。
Central bank governor Perng Fai-nan responded by saying he’ll take action against irregular movement in local currency. He seemed to imply that he’s ready to counteract the effects of any actions taken by his Asian counterparts.
