Taiwan increasingly marginalized in Tiaoyutai dispute (2012/09/21)

保釣要遊行

"人人保釣大聯盟"將在23號發起保釣遊行，他們今天也拜會各政黨，希望他們都能動員參加活動，對於《時報周刊》報導，日本海上自衛隊少將秘密來台，並與馬政府達成共識，"冷處理"釣魚台問題，保釣遊行的召集人林孝信說，馬政府千萬不要中了日本的緩兵之計。

中日搶釣魚台主權，日本海上保安廳加派巡邏船提高警戒，船隻甚至還加裝了防衝撞裝備，緊張情勢一觸即發，而在釣魚台主權上，台灣的角色似乎被邊緣化！

台灣民間團體禮拜天也將走上街頭，發動保釣遊行。

但現在也傳出，政府早就私下和日方達成協議。根據時報周刊報導，一名日本海上自衛隊航空司令部少將，這個月10日曾秘密來台，已經和馬政府達成，對釣魚台問題"冷處理"的共識。

而在日本宣佈將釣魚台收歸國有後，今天上午一艘編號「大瀚711」的台灣民間平板工作船，到釣魚台西南方22.4海浬保釣，還一度嗆日方「釣魚台屬於台灣，不要擋我們的路」！所幸在海巡和星艦的保護下，雙方並沒有發生衝突。

Taiwan continues to make noise over the Tiaoyutai Islands, but is anybody listening? In a sovereignty dispute that has turned into a dual affair between Japan and China, the third claimant Taiwan is still protesting and still sending out boats. 

The East China Sea is at the boiling point. The Japanese Coast Guard has increased patrols, raised its alert level and added anti-collision equipment, all to defend the islands it calls the Senkakus. Its eyes are on China. Taiwan has been marginalized.

After China entered, Taiwan’s position of sovereignty over the Tiaoyutai Islands was weakened. In the conflict between China and Japan, Taiwan doesn’t have a role.

Taiwan’s relatively small standing as the Asian giants tussle hasn’t stopped activists. They will protest on Sunday.

But there are rumors that the government already reached an agreement with Japan. According to the China Times weekly, a general from air force command in the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force paid a secret visit to Taiwan on the 10th. Apparently the officer reached an agreement with the Ma administration to calmly settle the Tiaoyutai dispute.

If (the government) is sincere, I think it needs to meet certain conditions. It first must publicly state that the Tiaoyutai Islands are the Republic of China’s. Second, it must remove the military vessels from the Tiaoyutai Islands.

Today a private workboat from Taiwan reached within 22.4 nautical miles of the Tiaoyutai Islands. It broadcast out to Japan “the Tiaoyutai Islands are Taiwan’s, do not block our path.” Conflict was avoided after a Taiwan Ho Hsing vessel stepped in to provide protection.
