Annual event attracts a huge number of swimmers (2012/09/16)
萬人泳渡
一年一度的日月潭國際萬人泳渡活動已邁入第30屆，今年來參加的隊伍，總計1,336隊、參加人數共計28,390人，有來自全球5大洲、共計33國外籍泳客參加。其中最特別的是，新港奉天宮的媽祖，今年也來參賽，共襄盛舉。
碼頭邊響起了的哨角聲，今年橫渡日月潭，第一個下水的，是神明選手--林默娘。
既然參加游泳活動，當然不是坐神轎，媽祖是坐在一艘木船上，由65個泳士，護送媽祖，緩緩的游向對岸。
600位信徒等在終點伊達邵碼頭，迎接媽祖。全程3.3公里，選手林默娘的成績，是2小時30分鐘。

不只參加萬人橫泳，新港開台媽祖，其實很喜歡戶外運動。

另外，副總統吳敦義一早就來放魚苗，還來幫選手們鳴槍，今年參加人數總共有28390人，是舉辦30年以來，創歷年最高。
The 30th Annual Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival took place today with more than 28,000 people taking part. One special participant was a statue of Matsu from the Singang Fengtian Temple. The statue traveled on a wooden boat and was escorted by a team of swimmers.
On this pier, a noise signals the start of the annual Sun Moon Lake race with one of the first to enter the water is Matsu, otherwise known by the name, Lin Mo Niang.
Naturally, Matsu could not travel in her normal palanquin today, as she is now traveling in a special wooden boat, escorted by 65 swimmers who safeguard her passage across the lake.
Another 600 Matsu devotees wait at the Ita Thao Pier, the end point of this 3.3 km swim. It took Matsu and her followers some two and a half hours to finish the course this year.
I’m very happy to accompany Matsu on this swim across Sun Moon Lake.
As it turns out, Singang Fengtian Matsu not only likes participating in mass swims, but other outdoor sporting activities as well.

We’ve also taken Matsu to Yushan which is 3,952 meters above sea level and she also went on a 1,268 kilometer walking tour.
Today’s festivities also included Vice President Wu Den-yih who visited the area and oversaw the release of young fish into the lake and also signaled the start of the race. This year saw a record number of 28,390 participants in this annual race which has been taking place for more than 30 years.
