Janet Hsieh discusses her new series and the joys of traveling
For her new series "Fun Taiwan All-Stars," which premiered on March 9 on TLC, Janet Hsieh designed 10 unique travel experiences in Taiwan for 10 fellow hosts from the TV channel. Accordingly, each host could enjoy the trip of a lifetime, as they were able to see a side of Taiwan that matched their tastes and interests. At the same time, filming the show was also an unforgettable experience for Janet because it allowed her to rediscover Taiwan and reflect on what she has done over the years as the host of "Fun Taiwan."
"A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles." This quote from Tim Cahill, a famous travel writer from the U.S., can best sum up how Janet feels about her experiences with the different hosts. "It is a really fun opportunity for me … one, because I can work with people I love watching on TV myself and then also it was like bringing the energy of two people together. The energy coming from the other host will let you bounce back, so you become more energetic … Therefore, you see things you never saw before. It is like you are traveling with a friend or going on a big trip with a college buddy," Janet said.
One of the most unforgettable experiences for Janet occurred at a traditional roadside banquet when traveling with KF Seetoh, the host of "The Food Surprise." At the banquet, there was a performance of the famous "Electric-Techno Neon Gods." Without prior notice, Janet and Seetoh went on stage and learned how to take part in the performance.
"It was a really fun experience!" said Janet with a big smile. "We had to wear a head mask that not only weighed 20 kilograms but also limited the performers' vision; so we couldn't peek at the other dancers if we forgot the steps. I remember one time Seetoh turned to me during the performance. We looked at each other in dismay and wondered who made the mistake that time."
Although it was enjoyable to travel with her foreign guests, there was still some pressure on her and the production team because all of her guests were used to traveling the world. "To have the hosts come to Taiwan and to make them love it as much as we all do was a challenge for us. If these hosts can find something that they love in Taiwan then OK … we have done our job," Janet explained.
So far, Janet has taken most of the hosts around Taiwan and she thinks she has done a pretty good job of convincing them to fall in love with the country. Janet is also proud to say that many hosts told her that they didn't want to leave the island, not only on camera but off as well.
Janet said the experience of making "Fun Taiwan All-Stars" reaffirmed her faith in traveling. "For me, traveling is not so intimidating. Traveling is everything … people don't have to leave to travel since there is so much just around us. So traveling is just living with everything around you … For me, it is my playground and it is also my school … I've learned so much from everybody and from everything I have seen. Without traveling … I would not be who I am," she concluded.

在三月九日於 TLC 頻道首播的新節目《瘋台灣全明星》中，Janet 為十位該頻道的節目主持人設計了十種獨特的台灣旅遊體驗。每位主持人都能享受到一趟終生難忘的旅程，因為他們能看到與自身品味和興趣相符的不同台灣風貌。同時，拍攝這個節目對 Janet 來說也是一次難忘的經驗，因為這讓她能重新發現台灣，並回顧多年來她作為《瘋台灣》節目主持人的過往種種。
「朋友是衡量旅程好壞的最佳方式，而非里程。」這句引述自美國知名旅遊作家卡希爾的話，最能總結 Janet 與不同主持人一起旅行的經驗感受。Janet 表示：「對我來說，這是一個非常有趣的機會…因為我可以與自己喜愛的電視主持人合作，而且這樣的合作就像是聚集起了兩人的精力。對方主持人的活力會讓你有所反應，讓你變得更有精神…因此，你會看到以前沒有發現的東西。這就像是與朋友出遊，或是與大學死黨參加大旅行的感覺。」
對於 Janet 來說，最令她難忘的其中一個經驗，是與《食客大突擊》主持人司徒國輝旅行時所遇到的路邊辦桌。在辦桌活動上，出現了著名的「電音三太子」表演。在沒被事先告知的情況下，Janet 與司徒國輝走上舞台，並學習如何加入他們的表演。
Janet 大笑著表示：「那是一個非常有趣的經驗！我們必須戴上面具，那個面具不僅重達廿公斤，還限制住了表演者的視線，以致於如果我們忘記了舞步，也無法偷看其他的舞者。我記得在表現時，有一次司徒國輝轉身過來對著我。我們驚慌地看著對方，不知道是誰跳錯了。」
雖然與外賓主持人同遊很好玩，但由於所有的特別來賓都習慣於環遊世界，這仍對她和製作團隊帶來了一些壓力。Janet 解釋道：「邀請各路主持人來台，並讓他們像我們一樣愛上這個地方，這對我們來說是一項挑戰。如果這些主持人有在台灣發現他們喜愛的事物，那麼很好…我們就算是達成了任務。」
到目前為止，Janet 已帶了大部分的主持人遊台，而她認為自己很成功地說服他們愛上這個國家。Janet 還自豪地表示，許多主持人在鏡頭前和鏡頭後都跟她說，他們不想離開台灣。
Janet 表示，拍攝《瘋台灣全明星》的經驗再次肯定了她對旅行的信念。她總結說道：「對我來說，旅行這件事沒那麼嚇人。旅行就是一切…人們不必出國也能旅行，因為我們的生活週遭就有許多值得一看的地方。所以，旅行就是與你身邊一切事物共同生活…對我來說，那是我的遊樂場，也是我的學校…我從每個人身上及所見所聞中學到了很多。如果缺少了旅行…我就不會是現在的我。」
