你在和外國人對話的時候，是不是常常覺得他說的字你似乎都懂，但放在一起成了一串表達之後，就會讓你摸不著頭緒，瞬間啞口無言？
現在，就讓我們來猜猜看，下面這五句以紅色標出的地方各是什麼意思？

1. come again 再說一次？
如果在對話當中沒有聽清楚對方說什麼，除了Pardon?、I’m sorry? What did you say? Come again 也是個很好用的表達。另外，Come again 還有另一個好處，當你是因為太震驚而想要再確定對方說的話，這樣用準沒錯。
2. shoot the works 花光所有的錢
這個表達除了「把錢花光」，還有「豁出去、孤注一擲」的意思。像是近年來許多的台灣電影工作者，不惜傾家蕩產，為了就是要讓台灣的電影產業動起來。這時候你就可以說 Those producers shoot their works on local film industry. 把錢/精力花在……事情上，介系詞會用on。
3. bite my tongue 忍著不說
當你遇到另你不悅的人，但不想和對方一般見識而默默離去，這樣的作為就是 bite one’s tongue。另外，你也可以附加說明 I don’t want to stoop down to his level. 表示你不想和他起口角，把自己降到和他一般的層次。
4. in top form 最佳狀態
這個片語除了可以說人的「身體狀況良好」，也可以用來表達「機智反應能力處於很好的狀態」。像是候選人在電視上進行政見發表與辯論，如果他對答如流，還能反擊對手，你就可以說 The candidate was in top form today and outwitted his opponents.
5. hit the books 認真唸書
如果你只會用 study 這個字，那 hit the books 一定要學起來。這表達有種「要和書對戰了」的感覺，不是只有 study，而是 study very hard。
