如果有一個小學生問你「運動精神是什麼？」，你會如何回答？ 奧運體育選手在開幕式的「運動員宣誓」誓詞（athlete oath）裡，提供了我們非常好的答案——而且是英文的！

今年的2012倫敦奧運也依照往例，在各國運動員遊行進場之後，會由主辦國英國的一位運動員作為全場運動員的代表，在國際奧委會主席的見證下，手執奧運五環會旗的一角，宣讀誓詞。

英文的句子，則更美了：

In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.

這句英文中，明白表示「以真正的運動精神」（in the true spirit of sportsmanship），為了「體育的光榮和本隊的榮譽」（for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams），運動員要「尊重與遵守體育規則」（respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them）。
