Rain and darkness lead to difficult rescue conditions in Smangus Village bus crash (2012/12/10)

昨天下午，在新竹縣尖石鄉，發生令人悲痛的翻車意外！一輛載著新北市泰山國小22名老校友的中型巴士，準備前往司馬庫斯，在上坡的轉彎處疑似因會車熄火”倒退嚕” ，導致翻車墜落350公尺深的山谷，釀成13死10傷的悲劇。
搜救隊伍再度整裝，放下繩索往下攀，要重回司馬庫斯翻車墜谷的事發地點。

白天重回意外現場，畫面令人怵目驚心，沿著山谷到處散落旅客的行李，車子零件，中型巴士翻滾解體，殘骸嚴重扭曲無法辨識
指著中型巴士翻落山谷的地點，昨天晚間，司馬庫斯的居民們，在警消還沒抵達現場之前，已經先號召部落青年，投入救援。
警消和軍人隨後陸續趕到事故現場，拉著救援繩索，攀下山谷，進行搶救任務。
從目擊者的行車紀錄器畫面中，可以看到一輛中型巴士正要會車，在確定無法通過後停住，接下來，悲劇就發生了，巴士直接”倒退嚕”，接著翻落深谷裡。
雖然有上百名人力投入搶救受難者，但山區入夜後，伸手不見五指，加上連日下雨，讓山路泥濘不堪，救援行動更加困難，整起意外造成13人不幸罹難。
Thirteen people died and ten were injured as a mini-bus rolled off a cliff and tumbled into a deep valley near the Smangus Village. Rescuers worked throughout the night, lowering themselves on ropes though rain and mud hampered the effort.
A search and rescue team lowered ropes into this valley which was the scene of a deadly bus accident carrying tourists to Smangus Village.

The scene of the accident was a shocking sight in the daytime. The valley was strewn with baggage and the mini-bus which was destroyed beyond recognition.
Local youth from the Smangus Village were called upon to aid in the rescue, arriving before police and firemen, to help those injured in the accident.
Police, fire department, and even the military rushed to the scene, lowering rescue ropes into the valley.
A video shot by another car on the scene shows the mini-bus stopping when the driver realizes he can’t pass the car. The next scene is tragic as the bus begins to travel backwards and can’t stop as it goes over the cliff and into the valley.
Although over one hundred people turned out for the rescue effort, the mountainside was pitch dark and days of continuous rain left the area muddy, making it even more difficult to carry out the rescue operations.
