謝長廷破冰
謝長廷訪中行，被外界解讀為「民共破冰之旅」，國民黨榮譽主席吳伯雄表示，謝長廷提「憲法各表」，比起民進黨「台獨黨綱」，做了很大的修正，不過，民進黨主席蘇貞昌強調，民進黨堅持台灣主體性的一貫立場，並沒有改變。
謝長廷以民進黨訪中最高層級身份出訪，還和中共中央對台工作高官戴秉國對談，代表和共產黨交流，不再是國民黨的專利，此行被賦與「民共破冰」的意含。
對此，國民黨榮譽主席吳伯雄以及民進黨主席蘇貞昌，表示看法。

2012敗選後，民進黨內檢討中國政策聲浪四起，隨著謝長廷訪中，提前引爆中國路線的爭辯。
In name Frank Hsieh represented nobody but himself in China, but in practice he represented the DPP. Hsieh’s trip could become a turning point for the opposition party as it slowly tries to build ties with the Communist Party.
As the highest-ranking member of the DPP to visit China, Hsieh had the opportunity to meet with Dai Bingguo, the Chinese state councilor. In the process Hsieh broke the KMT’s monopoly on meetings with high-level Communist Party officials. Some consider Hsieh’s trip to be the DPP’s attempt at “breaking the ice” with Beijing. Mr. Frank Hsieh went to the mainland on his own accord, but at least the ideas he gave for cross-strait constitutional law were very different from the past Taiwanese independence platform and its calls to write a new constitution or create a new country.

The DPP has always called for Taiwan’s interaction with China to be transparent and open. When facing China, the DPP has always advocated that we stand up for Taiwan. The DPP’s positions on these issues have not changed.
The DPP’s has been revisiting its China policy ever since its thumping in the last presidential election. Hsieh’s trip has become part of the effort.
