　　There are few sports that enjoy popularity across the globe. It goes without saying that soccer is the most recognized, watched, and played sport in the world today. Actually, the sport is called football in almost every country, except for Canada and the US. While its official name is association football, it was eventually shortened. There are huge differences in the way soccer and American football are played. Also, the latter is played with an oval ball, whereas the former uses a round one. The game of rugby also evolved from soccer, making the three sports rather confusing depending on where in the world you live.

However, the sport has evolved significantly since then, with whistles replacing the handkerchiefs that referees once used to wave around. One thing that has always remained the same is that soccer players are among the fastest athletes in the world. Also, the average soccer player runs around 11 kilometers each game, and the strength of their kicks has been known to break bones. Namely, an Italian soccer player accidentally broke the arm of a spectator with his mighty shot.

　　There has been a lot of discrimination throughout history. A group of people may be accepted in one place but then rejected somewhere else. Sometimes, they even have a hard time finding a place to live in peace. Like many groups and communities, the gay community has events to celebrate freely who they are. They take this time to show the world that they are not going to change that. It is also a time when friends and supporters of the gay community show their love and acceptance.
　　Gay Pride Month is celebrated in the US every June. It is also when the events of Gay Pride week take place. June was chosen because a historic standoff took place in New York City in 1969. There had been a lot of violence towards the gay community for years then. The police were even demanding money from them in exchange for protection. During one incident, the people being attacked stood up for themselves and refused to be bullied. Word spread, and more people came to support them. More police came as well, and the standoff lasted for days. In the end, the Gay Liberation Front was created to stop the violence and hatred against the gay community.
