After the five-day working week was introduced in Taiwan in 2001, there was a boom in tourism to scenic spots around the country. However, this highlighted the fact that many historic sites had fallen into disrepair. Regional governments began paying more attention to the preservation of such sites, and the demand for restoration services increased.
As an architecture major, Lin Da-wei was naturally interested in historic buildings. Discovering that there were many in Taiwan that needed preservation, he jumped right into the field of historic restoration. Restorers are generally more hands-on involved than architects. They have to be present at restoration sites to ensure that appropriate techniques are employed. Lin's task is to examine old buildings in detail and prescribe the appropriate treatment before bringing in professional artisans to work on them. This has earned him the nickname “doctor of historic buildings.”
Since the main structures are often very fragile, old buildings have been known to collapse with the restoration team just meters away. It's a high-risk business, and an evaluation of the building's sturdiness and ample support scaffolding are essential for the safety of the crew.

由於主建築體通常非常脆弱，老建築曾經在僅距修復團隊幾公尺處坍塌。古蹟修復是門高風險的行業，為了團隊的安全，評估建築堅固度並做充分的鷹架支撐是非常必要的。
