China and Taiwan may be separated by just a narrow body of water but, like many other aspects of the cross-Strait relationship, the two film markets have remained largely separate from each other.

That is now changing with Night Market Hero, the first Taiwanese film to be allowed to enter the Chinese market under a broad trade deal signed last year.

Night Market Hero will be shown in Chinese screens from 12 July, an achievement that the Taiwanese government hailed on Wednesday as a “pioneering event that will be like a train engine leading more films to China”. The film’s breakthrough a year after the trade deal was signed will also provide some much needed ammunition for the government, in the run-up to next year’s election, to show that closer ties with China is bringing economic benefits to Taiwan.

After taking a hit recently because of Apple’s patent lawsuits, HTC shares went limit up Wednesday, propelled by support from Google and a stock buyback program. Its performance helped the Taiwan Stock Exchange rise 2.13 percent to close at 8,706.17 points.

Apple’s patent lawsuits against HTC are being interpreted as part of a face-off between Apple and Google’s Android operating system. On Tuesday, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt expressed support for HTC, joking that HTC could directly ask him for support. Analysts interpreted Schmidt’s remarks as an attempt to unite Android handset makers against Apple.

In addition, HTC announced last weekend that it intends to buy back 20 million of its own shares at an estimated cost of almost NT$20 billion. Wednesday was the first day the stock went ex-dividend, a condition regulators prefer that it meets before initiating a buyback. With the start of ex-dividend the share price rose limit up, closing at NT$872.

HTC estimates that there is still a chance that its earnings per share could be between NT$80 and NT$100. We have given it a price-to-earnings ratio of 15 to 20. Comparatively speaking, up to now the share price is still a little low.

The weighted index also performed well Wednesday, rising 2.13 percent to close at 8,706.17 points on turnover of NT$133.687 billion, the highest turnover since May 5.

TAIPEI -- After a very long wait, Washington Nationals pitcher Chien-Ming Wang of Taiwan will finally return to the Major Leagues with a start against the New York Mets on July 30 Taipei time, the Nationals said.

“It would mean a lot,” Wang said in an interview with the New York Times of his return to a Major League mound. “A lot of people tell me, this kind of injury, no one comes back.”

In the interview with the newspaper published July 24, Wang said he still could add 2 or 3 mph to his sinker and guessed that he was 80 to 90 percent as effective as he used to be in his long journey to regain the vaunted sinker that once tied up big league hitters.

Electric Bikes Clean Up

In Taipei, scooters are both popular and ubiquitous. They offer quick, cheap transportation and easy parking. However, they are also responsible for air and noise pollution. Is there any alternative to these two problems? The answer may be the electric bicycle. On Xiamen Island in China, the government has banned scooters but allows people to purchase electric bicycles. These machines carry people around silently and do not emit any exhaust. According to China’s environmental protection standards, Xiamen’s air is classed as first rate. Is every one happy? No, they are not. Both the Xiamen traffic department and local residents agree that the growing number of electric bicycles is causing more accidents. Banning them seems unlikely. Instead, better driver education and stricter enforcement of existing laws are necessary. This should help this quiet and clean alternative to the scooter continue to transport people around Xiamen.

1、Do you have a family?

2、There are friends and "friends".
There is coffee and coffee。 There are books and books.(書跟書不一樣。)There are ways and ways of doing it。

3、Many people sleep late on weekends

4、It's a good father that knows his son.
It's a good machine that works without power.
It's a long lane that has no turning.

有一次,一位學生去澳洲,在吃飯時聊到很多東西方不同的食物,說到美味的dumpling(餃子)和bean curd(豆腐),主人一頭霧水,原來澳洲人叫餃子ravioli(餃子,義大利語),豆腐直譯成tofu(豆腐,來自日語)。

1、永遠記住你 I remember you forever,沒有人能活到forever,改成always remember you。

但是你問老美或老英"Where is the WC?" 肯定沒有人聽得懂,廁所請用 men's room/women's room/restroom/powder room等。

3、不要再用trousers來說「褲子」了,而是pants/slacks/jeans。

4、馬馬虎虎最好用average/fair/all right/not too bad/OK,老外較少使用so-so。

5、形容東西好吃除了delicious,可以多用yummy/nice/tasty/appetizing等。

6、公共場合的用語,「小心台階」不要說“pay attention to the steps”,用“mind the steps”。

7、我覺得很痛不是I am painful,而應該是I feel pain。
