Parents who restrict their children to a vegan diet could face a jail term if a controversial bill is passed by the Italian parliament. It has been proposed by Elvira Savino of the centre-right Forza Italia party.
義大利國會如果通過一項爭議性法案，限制子女只能吃素的父母，將可能面臨刑期。該法案已由中右翼的「義大利前進黨」議員艾爾維拉．薩維諾提案。
In four cases over the last 18 months, malnourished children were hospitalised in Italy after being fed a vegan diet. A one year-old boy was removed from his parents after being hospitalised through severe calcium deficiency.
過去18個月以來，義大利已有4起兒童在被餵養素食餐點後，導致營養不良而送醫的案例。有一名1歲男童因嚴重缺鈣而就醫，被帶離他的父母身邊。
Savino said that a vegan diet can leave children lacking essential vitamins such as B and D12, as well as zinc and omega 3. Savino’s proposed bill will be discussed by parliamentary committees probably later this year.
薩維諾指出，素食餐點可能造成兒童缺乏必要的維他命，例如維他命B和D12，以及鋅和Omega-3脂肪酸。薩維諾的提案將先經由國會委員會討論，時間可能在今年底。
She told Reuters: "I just find it absurd that some parents are allowed to impose their will on children in an almost fanatical, religious way, often without proper scientific knowledge or medical consultation."
她告訴路透：「我只是覺得這很荒謬，有些父母竟被容許以一種幾近狂熱、宗教的方式，將其意志強加於子女身上，而且經常沒有適當的科學知識或醫學諮詢。」
The suggested penalty for parents whose children became sick or injured as a result of malnutrition ranged from two years and six months to four years, and four to six years if death resulted.
針對父母造成子女營養不良，因而生病或受傷，該法案建議的刑期從2年6個月至4年不等，如果致死則將吃上4到6年牢飯。
