Dough master creates decorations for temple celebrations
Taiwan has a religious dough master who specializes in colorful productions for temple celebrations. His work with dough is just as impressive as that of many woodcarvers.
These deities all have vivid facial expressions and delicate clothing. They are produced by a Taoist master with 30 years of experience in turning dough into art. His name is Huang Da-ting, and he has the special skill of crafting religious figurines from dough. He can quickly turn out a “porcine deity.”
The statue takes him only 10 minutes. He’s even able to cater to a client’s special requests.

I pull out the feet from the side because here it won’t crack. If I just stick a foot on, it will heat up and then shrink when it cools. Then it will break off.
His “porcine deity” is realistic and plump. Equally impressive is his work with this dragon.
It took him a month to complete this dragon head and tail. In between, the table is laid with rice and fruit, creating a centerpiece for this temple celebration.

Now this is made with styrofoam along with wood and polymer clay. It’s more refined and rugged.
This master proves that there are many more uses for dough than most people think. He takes this common substance and turns it into magical works of art.
