President Ma promises speedy reforms in 2013 (2013/01/01)

馬總統今天在元旦文告中，強調新的一年將加速改革，還用脫稿用台語向民眾喊話，說台灣人不只是靠景氣，更要靠志氣跟勇氣，也呼籲朝野停止內耗，不過民進黨主席蘇貞昌，反呼籲總統盡快召開國是會議，前主席蔡英文則要總統放下威權心態，和公民進行對話。

103年元旦，馬總統帶著部會首長迎接新的一年。在一年一度的元旦文告中，馬總統強調，全球經濟已經露出復甦的曙光，政府一定要積極做對的事。

“新的一年台灣的經濟情勢，一定會比去年好，今後政府由上到下，都要秉持"多做多對"，"少做少對"的觀念，只要合法不要怕圖利人民”

而民進黨主席蘇貞昌也呼籲要開啟國事會議。

“那就趕快來召開國是會議，讓朝野，讓社會各界，一起面對馬政府所製造出來的國家危機”

蘇貞昌批評馬總統，才是讓人民痛苦的根源，不過總統卻似乎認為，在野黨也該負責。

“我們一定要避免無謂的對立，更不應該挑起妒恨的情緒，絕對不能讓社會繼續撕裂，一定要立刻停止空轉與內耗”

前民進黨主席蔡英文則是呼籲總統要放下身段，跟在野黨，跟公民團體，進行民主式的協商，才能夠有效地解決台灣現在所面對的問題。

It was a tough year for President Ma Ying-jeou in 2012. Hoping to turn things around, in his annual New Year’s Day address Ma urged the government to expedite reform. He also called for an end to confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties, though opposition leaders said the bigger issue is that the KMT fails to heed their concerns. 

President Ma Ying-jeou led cabinet ministers to welcome 2013. In the annual New Year’s Day address, Ma said the sluggish economy was showing its first signs of recovery. He promised the government would take an aggressive, correct approach.

In the year ahead, Taiwan's economy will definitely perform better than last year, says Ma. Starting from today, the government, from top to bottom, must abide by the principle that ‘the more you do, the more you can accomplish; the less you do, the less you can accomplish.’ As long as we operate within the bounds of the law, we should not fear serving the interests of the people.

Opposition leader Su Tseng-chang called for a state-policy meeting.

The government should quickly host a national affairs conference so the ruling, opposition and public can face the nationwide crisis the Ma administration has created, says Su.

Although Su blamed Ma for economic problems, the president believes the opposition party should also shoulder responsibility.
