Chen’s last start of the regular season brought him to Tampa Bay to face the Rays. He maintained his 94 mile-per-hour fastball into the seventh inning.

Today was my last game of the season. I don’t want to think too much about it. In any case, I did my best.
But it was not good enough. Chen scattered six hits over 6 and two-thirds innings. He only gave up one earned run, but surrendered four runs in part due to a Manny Machado error. Chen was charged with the loss. Meanwhile the Yankees won, putting them one game up on the Orioles with just two days remaining.

The ball was hit out. It was a good pitch, but resulted in a hit, and a home run at that. Then my teammate had an error. I can’t control these things. The only thing I can control is making myself a better pitcher.
The regular season has ended for Chen. In his rookie campaign he went 12-11, ending with a 4.02 ERA. He led all Orioles starters in games, innings, wins and strikeouts. His primary fault was the 29 home runs he gave up, seventh most in the American League.
